Microsoft Teams Video Call Forwarding

Call forwarding is a basic feature offered on virtually every telephony and UC platform today.  There are several use cases for the feature from forwarding your calls from your Teams client to voicemail, to a call group, to the PSTN, to a federated Teams contact and wait for it.. even to a Microsoft Teams Room (MTR) system. To caveat you can't establish video calls between a Teams client calling into an Teams Cloud Auto Attendant to establish a video call with an agent.

Not only does Microsoft Teams offer audio call forwarding it also works with forwarded Video calls.  Think about the open office or even the home office where a bit more privacy or focus time is the perfect recipe of the day. All I have to do is simply forward my calls to the MTR while I work from the designated space. If I am in the office I could even book the space from the scheduling panel directly and it will show that the room is busy in Microsoft Exchange. 

The following diagram shows a reservation on the scheduling panel via Crestron XiO cloud:


The diagram below illustrates the call forwarding rules available to my Teams client:


Now that Christine forwarded her calls to the MTR, when Paul initiates a video call to Christine the video call will be forwarded to the MTR and the media will be setup between Paul the the MTR. A Notification will show on Paul's Team client that the call is being forwarded for Christine.



Christine can now answer the audio or video call from Paul on the MTR system. The MTR will be alerted there is an incoming call from Paul.



In this demonstration we selected to answer with Video where you see can see me doing  the Dab from the video feed of the MTR to my Teams Client.

Troubleshooting Proximity Join Microsoft Teams Proximity join with Auto Answer for the Microsoft Teams Room system is an important feature in achieving the virtual ‘no touch conferencing room’. Using a mobile phone or personal computer we can start a meeting by selecting a nearby MTR using Bluetooth or by the Suggested room list which is a list of rooms that you’ve used recently on your calendar coming from the Exchange address room list.  The mobile phone or PC is used as the content sharing source in this case.
